Play Responsibly
The Gambling Commission regulates the lotteries offered by The Weather Lottery and it is our policy to maintain full compliance with the provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 as they apply to us. The Act requires that operators implement measures to protect the vulnerable. The Weather Lottery’s policies on protection of the vulnerable meet and exceed these requirements.
The vulnerable groups identified are:
- Those who are below the legal age for playing lotteries
- Those who have a propensity to play to excess.
Our general principle is to conform to the recommendations of the code of practice from the Gambling Commission and leading charities set up to assist problem gamblers. Our implementation of those recommendations is as follows.
Under-Age
The legal age at which players can buy tickets in a lottery is 16. Before you play in The Weather Lottery, you must register and provide personal details. We make rigorous checks of these details to ensure that you are 16 or over. You will not be able to play using Credit and Debit cards that can be acquired by minors. Winners of prizes are required to submit proof of their age and identity before they receive them so that age verification can be confirmed. Prizes are not provided to under-age players.
Responsible Advertising
The Weather Lottery will follow the code of practice that seeks to avoid targeting under age people with advertising material. This will include, for example, avoiding television advertisements in programmes that have more than a specified proportion of underage viewers and avoiding the placing of posters near to school gates etc. No co-sponsorship will take place with companies that have particular appeal to those less than 16 years.
Avoiding Excess Play
The systems of play, both paper, and on-line, allow you to play only 3 lines each day. This amounts to a total of 75p played each day.
Links to Help
For any player who feels they have a propensity to play to excess, The Weather Lottery facilitates links to help from recognised charities that assist people with a gambling problem.
